16Guidelines:About
From 16Guidelines
The 16 Guidelines for Life are a set of practical and straightforward tools for developing happiness and meaning in everyday life. Inspired by a seventh-century text from Tibet, they are being used by people of all ages and cultures worldwide to transform problems and create the causes of peace and wellbeing. The Guidelines were first launched in 2006 and have been introduced into schools, colleges, hospices, drug rehab centres, prisons and workplaces across five continents.
The 16 Guidelines are the first initiative of [Essential Education], a London-based NGO which aims to make the world a better place by helping people to develop their innate compassion and wisdom. An international 16 Guidelines training programme was launched in 2008.
The 16 Guidelines are based on the inspirational values and principles that a 7th-century Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo, introduced to his people. They are "ideas to make life better" that played a crucial part in changing Tibet from a warlike nation into a civilisation renowned for its peace and serenity.
