Delight
From 16Guidelines
What is Delight?
Delight is a celebration! It is that moment when we experience being full of joy and our worries and fears fade away. Delight opens the heart.
It is such a wonderful feeling, it's strange how often we overlook it, and yet we so often do. How easy it is to focus on bad news and negative feelings. Delight can change our minds and our lives. It builds bridges between people - we celebrate our own happiness and we take joy in the good fortune and happiness of others. It brings us closer to those we love and creates a radiance that can inspire others, not by action but simply by being.
Delight is not naive, it is fully aware. It fully appreciates and wonders at the miracles of simple everyday fun, the beauty around us, the very fact that we even have the capacity to think and feel. By cultivating delight we are making a choice about what to feed the heart and mind. Focusing our attention on the positive stories and accomplishments in life will quickly bring more happiness into the lives of ourselves and others.

- Alan Cohen
"When we are alone on a starlit night, when by chance we see the migrating birds in autumn descending on a grove of junipers to rest and eat; when we see children in a moment when they are really children, when we know love in our own hearts - at such times the awakening, the turning inside out of all values, the 'newness', the emptiness and the purity of vision that make themselves evident, all these provide a glimpse of the cosmic dance."
- Thomas Merton
"Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can."
- Danny Kaye
"Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference."
- Jane Goodall, UK
"Intelligence is nothing without delight."
- Paul Claudel
