Delight Meditations

8 minutes reflection on Delight
Sit comfortably with a straight back, relaxed hands, arms and shoulders. Keep your eyes closed or half open. Relax your mind. Take 3 deep and relaxed breaths. On the exhale you let all thoughts of where you just came from and where you are going to, leave your mind. Be mindful of your breath. Pay full attention to the sensation of the air passing through your nostrils. Sit like this for 2 minutes.
- Think of a situation where you have been delighted by the action or achievement of someone else. A friend, a colleague or a competitor. A pure delight expressing your genuine happiness for something done by someone else.
- Recall the situation and the feeling clearly and observe it. How did it feel? How did you act?
- Realize that the opposite of delight is jealousy and envy which leads to anger and unhappiness for oneself and others. And that delight brings instant happiness, compassion and mutual growth. Furthermore delight is contagious. It spreads. Your ability to take delight helps others to do the same.
- Rejoice in having been able to take delight in another’s good fortune. And thereby created a positive state of mind.
- Consider that delight is not just a random experience but something you can learn. It takes time and you have taken the time for that now. Take delight in that.
- Make a resolution that you will seek opportunities to take delight in the achievements of others and yourself. That you will try to overcome natural occurring jealousy and instead spread delight. This way you will benefit yourself and others and take big steps in direction of happiness.
