8 minutes reflection on Honesty

Sit comfortably with a straight back, relaxed hands, arms and shoulders. Keep your eyes closed or half open. Relax your mind. Take 3 deep and relaxed breaths. On the exhale you let all thoughts of where you just came from and where you are going to, leave your mind. Be mindful of your breath. Pay full attention to the sensation of the air passing through your nostrils. Sit like this for 2 minutes.

  1. Think of a situation where you consciously have been acting with great honesty. You had the possibility to cheat and thereby gain something; money, possessions, promotion etc. But you chose to act honest and stand on your principles.
  2. Remember the situation clearly and observe how it felt in the moment. What was the sensation in your mind? How was the interaction with others?
  3. Realize that honesty is a very conducive attitude to create contentment and happiness for yourself and others. By cheating you plant seeds in your own mind making you see others cheat you. By being honest you plant seeds of honesty making you believe in others and thereby have peace in mind. Honesty also creates a better world for others. If all were cheating nothing good could ever happen. If all are honest only good would happen.
  4. Rejoice in all the honest actions you have performed in your life. Be aware that you have created many good causes for your own happiness and the happiness of others.
  5. Consider that you will sometimes be tempted to cheat and that standing firmly on being honest is an attitude that has to be trained. That’s what you are doing right now. Be happy.
  6. Make a resolution that you in the future will do your best to always be honest. Towards yourself and others. And that you thereby will be part of creating a world that is fair and full of trust and happiness.
