8 minutes reflection on Loyalty

Sit comfortably with a straight back, relaxed hands, arms and shoulders. Keep your eyes closed or half open. Relax your mind. Take 3 deep and relaxed breaths. On the exhale you let all thoughts of where you just came from and where you are going to, leave your mind. Be mindful of your breath. Pay full attention to the sensation of the air passing through your nostrils. Sit like this for 2 minutes.

  1. Think of a situation where you have been loyal to someone. Someone that needed your support. It might not have been easy for you to be loyal and support, but you stood firm.
  2. Recall the situation clearly. The circumstances. The difficulties for the other. And try to remember how the other reacted on your support. Try also to recall your own feelings in this situation of being loyal.
  3. Be aware of the benefits of loyalty; Not only do you support another when needed. You also create the causes for being supported when you need it yourself. Furthermore you will gain faith in your own strength and ability to keeping commitments. The benefits of loyalty are two sided; It benefits you and others.
  4. Rejoice in having been loyal in this particular case and in the many other times you have been loyal. You have created many positive causes.
  5. Consider that loyalty is a state of mind and therefore something that has to be nurtured and developed. By taking the time for that right now you are doing something very positive and worthwhile.
  6. Make a resolution that you will try to be loyal to anything needing your loyalty. That you will look at the long term and not only choose what is most pleasant in the moment. By doing so you will not only benefit the ones gaining from your loyalty, but also yourself.
